Hello...No one? It's been too long, so I'm sure my visitor count has dwindled. Anyway, I graduated from high school on June 4th, which was cool. The night went well until my biodad got my mom pissed off, and then that made the night kinda weird. Anyway, the weekend before that, I was able to place an ALIENWARE order! Alienware, for the blissfully unaware, is the maker of "dream machines," or rather luxury computers, laptops, and other hi-tech equipment. I was going to go with the m9700, but then chose the mALX once I was told that I could get anything I wanted! So, that was the Sunday before graduation, and it finally got here last Friday! Here are the specifications on this sweet, sweet "Ferrari of all laptops": CPU: AMD ML-44 Turion, 2.4 GHz RAM: 2 GB PC3200 (2x1024 MB) HDD: 100 GB 7200RPM 2.5" SATA II, with an extra bay for another hard drive, including support for RAID. GPU: 2 NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GTXs, with SLI, PCI-x8 (Though it IS x16 ready!) Speakers: A 4.1 system built-in the chassis! Two back speakers on the top, then two front speakers, as well as a subwoofer, on the bottom. Optical Drive: 8x DVD/RW+- Combo Writer, obviously also supports all those CD formats as well. Display: A gorgeous 19" display, with not even a single dead pixel anywhere! Max res of 1680x1050, apparently 1080p-capable. Others: A 1.3 Megapixel webcamera is built-in to the top of its massive lid. Also, the Alienware logo on the top of said lid lights up in normal power mode and flicks on and off when the computer is in standby mode. Also, there is a sick paint job on the lid, which changes colors depending on the angle that you are looking at it from. There is also a great microphone located at the bottom of the screen. The keyboard is full-sized, including a number pad! YAY! So, in conclusion, I love this laptop, it is worth every penny! Every part is upgradeable, which was a huge draw for me. It is PCI-x16 ready, which will be great for the video cards in the future. I wish the display had a higher resolution and the microphone was placed at the front rather than the back, since it picks up more feedback from the speakers there, but those are some small nuisances considering how amazingly sleek and fast and quiet this thing runs! I use it as my desktop nowadays, with my previous desktop's 300GB hard drive in an external bay now. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to play all games available with all settings maxed out, and do so at at least 60 fps! |
